The problem that we have at the moment, with our current fuel supply is that it is not easily renewed. Fossil fuels take a very long time to form and we are using them up far more quickly that they are reforming. So how is solar energy easily renewed? Well it doesn’t really need to be renewed because as long as the sun is shining there will always be enough energy available.

Well this is probably quite a generalization. Of course the sun often shines behind clouds and then there is not so much energy to collect. Also houses at high latitudes never get very much direct sunlight and so they may not be able to use solar energy at all.

Of course the sun doesn’t shine for twenty four hours a day. The closer to the equator the country is, the more the sun shines and the better value for money they will get from the equipment that they buy. However, there is still the problem of having enough energy to keep a house running day and night.

One answer is for them to use a system where they sell energy back to the grid when they are collecting more than they need, and then buy it back when they need it. The grid will use the excess to supply the people who do not have any solar energy and demand grid power all of the time. Of course, if everyone had solar panels there would be no demand for extra power during the day and so it may not be possible to sell excess power.

The best solution is to have a solar power station. This is where a specific building is set up to collect the energy from the sun and distribute it. This is a great way that electricity companies can make a real difference to the environment. However, there are very few at the moment and they are expensive to build. The only countries which have them are the USA and Spain which get a lot of sunshine in certain parts of the country.

Quick Tip #1

Solar energy is best for countries that get a lot of sunlight. It can be a great source of electricity and help add to the current supply, providing a cheaper and renewable source that causes no pollution.

Quick Tip #2

In India it is possible for the country to be able to produce more energy from the sun than they would ever use. This is because they receive a huge amount of sunlight and their population is not massively in demand of electricity.
